Question: What is the most effective way of getting current information?
We advise using our ticketing system and
its integrated knowledge base. If you have a general request, you can browse the online database of Questions & Answers
(also known as Articles) for suggestions. If your query is more specific, you can alternately submit a
request through our ticketing system and track it at your liesure.
Question: What is the optimal browser to use to browse the HistoSoft and myHistoSoft sites?
While we would like to advise the use of one particular web browser to view HistoSoft's web site, that
would not be a very useful suggestion. Each browser on the market has its pros and cons; consequently, the
user must decide the best browsing tool for his/her needs. We design our pages to be standards compliant
and avoid proprietary code as much as possible. We follow open standards set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and validate the code before publishing. It's the best
way we know to provide the most accessible content.
Question: Why does the layout appear funny when I'm browsing the HistoSoft and myHistoSoft sites? It
almost appears as if the images won't appear but the overall layout and text will.
You're almost right. This phenomenon occurs when your browser has disabled "referer logging".
You may need to enable referer logging to get some pages to render properly. There are many ways to
enable/disable this feature depending on the browser and other proxy devices sitting between your computer
and the network connecting your computer to our servers. If you need help figuring out what to change to
get the pages to appear properly, please contact
us or submit a support request and let
us know what browser you're using. We'll try to quide you through the procedure.
Question: Do you use plugins?
Generally, no. We have provided templates in PDF files (which
requires a PDF plugin, for example), but have since discontinued their use. We now use dynamic, server-based
applications to process user data.
Various browsers use different plugins and scripts to present some content and we try to avoid implementing
them when possible. If we do use a plugin, it is only for convenience to enhance your experience; they are
not mandatory in order to utilize our site content successfully.
Question: Do you use JavaScript?
In a word - Yes. But a little more should be said. Neither HistoSoft nor
myHistoSoft requires JavaScript to operate properly.
We implement JavaScript code as
a convenience on some pages to facilitate your online experience. You may readily use a browser that excludes
JavaScript or has JavaScripting turned off with no ill effects. The only drawback is that some convenience
features will not work. We have provided alternate links to those from Netscape because Netscape has disabled
their Devedge Network for some inexplicable reason. Hopefully, Mozilla will license the material and present
it anew because it was a terrific resource.
Question: How do I enable JavaScript?
It depends on the browser. Please review the HistSoft's quicktips.
Question: Do you use cookies?
Occasionally. The online
knowledgebase uses cookies as an option to remember user preferences. Also, our online payment processor
(PayPal) uses cookies to
temporarily record user account information during the purchasing process. We have no control over the policies
or technologies used by websites not under our complete control, so we recommend that you read the policies
of each website regarding their use of cookies. Please review our privacy policy too.
Question: How do I get to my account?
Near the top of most pages there is a link called "Login". That link will direct you to the secure membership
pages where you may log in.
Question: Do I need an account to browse the site?
No and Yes; Checking things out does not require an account. Sampling the online applications does require
registration but payment is not mandatory. After any trial period, a fee based account is required. The content
and research pages supporting our scientific applications are more in depth and numerous in the subscription area.
Question: Where is the list of currently available services?
Near the top of most pages there is a link called "Subscribe". That link will direct you to the most
recent list of online laboratory data processing eForms.
Question: What is it?
A data processing form to calculate and create a report of the protein concentration
in a given prepared biological sample.
Question: Who would be interested in such an application?
Any laboratory that must derive an unknown protein concentration from a biological sample.
Question: When will it be released?
It was released for subscriber use in 2004. It is revised as needed to add new features and enhance its
capabilities on a continuing basis.
Question: What is it?
A data processing form for the histology lab currently under development.
Question: When will it be released?
We are beta-testing now but plan on releasing it for initial use in July of 2008.
If you are using a "dated", non-text browser, this page may not render properly. You should be able to read all the content; however, since the styling is achieved with cascading style sheets (CSS) and old browsers do not support CSS, you must upgrade your browser. We apologize for any inconvenience.
